The experience typically required for
entry-level candidates would include having a Bachelors of Arts or a Bachelors
of Science preferably in Communications. Other related fields of study are the
Bachelors of English, Public Relations, and Journalism. Past experience in
social media and up to date with the new communication channels is a must.
Specific technical skills that appear to be in-demand are strong research
skills, familiarity with HTML, web publishing, and content management systems
for websites. Additionally, proficiency in Powerpoint, SharePoint, and Word
Press are preferred. Being abreast of the new media tools offer can also lend a
competitive edge. The interpersonal skills that candidates are expected to
possess include having a strong verbal and communication skills past, excellent
time management, superb organizational skills, and paying attention to
detail. Ideal candidates must be able to pitch stories to the media and be
able to summarize academic for different audiences. This individual must know
how to work in a team setting and must be able to work under minimal
supervision.
