GTS WK1 Analysis: Nailing Down Transmedia

Cross media is considered a specific form of media that has been dispersed over multiple media platforms utilizing a wide array of media platforms that are readily available. Cross media is widespread in the entertainment and gaming industry. Transmedia stories are unique storytelling devices that tell a story experience across a variety of platforms and formats using the digital formats. Transmedia stories apply creative approaches during the storytelling process to be used in creative media platforms to provide imaginative parts of the content in each media format. Cross media deals with a single story, whereas transmedia stories deal with multiple story formats based off of one main story or experience.

An example for a cross media story is J.K. Rowling Harry Potter Series. Originally, Harry Potter was a series of seven fantasy novels written by the British author J.K. Rowling. After much success, popularity, and critical acclaim in the United States and in Europe, the series was transformed into a series of films. This is considered an example of a cross media story because the novel series Harry Potter was transferred into a different media platform, which was the film format. This is an excellent example because the story was almost transferred verbatim when it was changed into the film format. Harry Potter enthusiasts were very accepting of the change in format and continued their interest in Harry Potter in the movie theaters as each film mirrored the book series precisely.

An example for a transmedia story is James Bond 007. James Bond 007 began as twelve novels and two short story series. As the success of the novels grew, the fictional character was adapted for multiple media platforms such as television, radio, comic strip, video games, and film. Different story experiences have been generated to express and further the adventures of James Bond 007. This is a classic example of a transmedia story because this example deals with creatively altering the single original story of James Bond 007 into multiple story platforms or experiences.

Another type of transmedia story is an Alternative Reality Game (ARG). An example of an ARG is the Lost Experience. The Lost Experience ARG is derived from popular American the television show Lost. The purpose of this ARG was to create another realm or experience that Lost fanatics could engage in under a different but similar storytelling experience.

Transmedia Fairy Tale Story Element Map

The basic story will be told in an anchoring medium, a novel. This will be a presentation the resembles a book including images and audio.

There are four primary characters to expand and explore: Goldilocks, Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear. This story is really about how when you steal and trespass, you hurt people, and how this hurts you, too. The theme of the story is 'ethics'. It's about 'how to treat other people with respect and what happens when you don't'.

Goldilocks take to Twitter to detail her mischievous behavior in regards to the incident with the three bears and other incidents where she has stolen things, broken into the people’s houses, and how she disobeys her parents. She takes with other children that encourage her activities and express their own bad behaviors. She is a troubled young girl and has not been taught about how to treat and respect others. She dialogues why she likes treating others with
@GreedyGoldilocks11: I just stole and eat three bowls of porridge. #IDOWHATIWANT!!

Goldilocks has a Facebook fan page where she gains followers by posting pictures of the things she has taken from the mall, out of convenient stores, from people’s homes, and out of office buildings.

Mama Bear has a love for making healthy and hearty meals for her family. She has a blog in Blogger where she has built a following and post pictures of her homemade meals and tips on how to keep your family eating healthy with savory meals. She is a stay at home mom and enjoys being there for her husband that loves to fish and her son that is about to have his first day of school. One blog post will include the breakfast that is cooked for Baby Bear on his first day of school. Another blog post will include Mama Bear’s tips on how to gut, filet, and cook fresh fish that is caught by Papa Bear. These two post will navigate the reader to Papa Bears’ Blog and Pinterest site and Baby Bear’s Powtoon First Day of School.

Papa Bear is a skilled fisherman. He works as a fisherman for the Brown’s Fishing Association. He has loved to fish since he was a child. He has taught Baby Bear how to fish. One of his blog posts will include his experience fishing with Baby Bear. This will guide the reader to Papa Bear’s Pinterest Fishing Adventure Pictures.

Baby Bear takes to his Twitter account to detail his summer time fun and his feelings about the first day of school. He dialogues to his friends from school about their summer adventures and what class they would be in this school year. Baby Bear plays basketball during the summer time at the local recreation center and during the school year at this middle school. He posts pictures of his new basketball uniform.

Baby Bear will have a PowToon animated video presentation detailing his first day of school. It will include the delicious breakfast that was made by Mama Bear and him going to basketball practice and meeting his new team members and his basketball coach from last year.

GTS Week 1 Practice A

In the project management course with Jenelle Ferrer, I learned specific steps that should be implemented during when managing a project. The first step that I recall is identifying the concept of the project. This is essentially carefully determining the idea for the project. During this phase, the decision making phase will identify if the project can be realistically completed. Next, the project needs to be defined. The project plan or the scope of the project can be put into writing or outlined to be performed by the group members. During this phase, prioritization is key when calculating a schedule and a budget and determining the resources needed. There are specific tools that can be used to chart the status of the project, to construct a schedule, to construct a budget, and to construct a risk analysis of the project. Resources must be charted when they are used to ensure that everything that is needed for the project is readily available for group members to carry out their specific tasks. These tools can be found online for free or for a nominal fee. The project needs to be launched and executed. Each team member resumes a responsibility and task for completing the project.

MCPP Portfolio Project Submission: Perro Mi Perro Grooming and Boarding

I am seeking a 1 - Star approval rating.

Link To My Perro Mi Perro Website

In this project I am working with web development and web design. My objectives were to create and launch a robust and interactive website that can be used to represent a grooming and boarding company for dogs. The outcome was a website that displayed popular grooming styles, contact information, services and prices, a photo gallery, frequently asked questions and answers, and a location to buy dog related products directly from the website. I used the Wix.com website to construct the website and for web development purposes. I also used Adobe Photoshop in the web design process. I am the only team member that contributed to the website. I received feedback from my professor and my peers for ways to better the website. This included adding content that was provided to me by my client and adding a recognizable logo that would be associated with the company. Additionally, adding better descriptions to the photo gallery would bring a better understanding to the pictures that were being displayed on the website. Lastly, I added three additional social networking buttons to bring more interaction with the social media community. I made a variety of revisions including:

  • Updating the home page including a main logo for the website
  • Resizing the grooming styles images on the homepages
  • Adding prices for the grooming styles displayed on the homepage and the Gallery Page of the website
  • Adding descriptions to the grooming style images and the Gallery Page on the homepage
  • Adding Send Us An Email to the Contact Page
  • Adding the Buy Now through Paypal Button on the Shop Page

Week 4 Reflection: Project Revision

To improve the website from within I decided to add functionality in three distinct ways on the website. I carefully listened to the advice offered by my instructor and my peers in regards to the soft launch of the website. I updated and added the homepage to include a main logo for the company. I resized grooming style images on the homepage. I added the prices for the grooming styles displayed on the homepage and the Gallery Page of the website. Additionally, I added descriptions to the grooming style images and the Gallery Page on the homepage. I included a Send Us An Email section to the Contact Page. Lastly, I included the Buy Now through Paypal Button on the Shop Page. In regards to the social media community, I added a Facebook Share button, a Pin It button for Pinterest, and a Tweet It button for Twitter.  I decided to make these specific changes because I wanted to  include the content that was provided to me by my client and to add a recognizable logo that would be associated with the company. I also wanted to add better descriptions to the photo gallery to bring a better understanding to the pictures that were being displayed on the website.
