Project Two : Reaching the Vulnerable North Korean Population
I believe that everyone being oppressed needs to have a sense of
inspiration and hope to know that their current situation is not the end. The
most effective and efficient use of the flyer would be for the flyer’s message
to be in North Korean language. The North Korean’s do not know English.
Therefore, if a flyer were dropped with English writing it would not
effectively serve its main purpose in inspiring the North Korean people through
its words. The flyer should be filled with bright colors on the front and a
picture of a beautiful sky with sun rays beaming down from the sky and a
rainbow.
The target audience would be all North Koreans that are being
oppressed mentally, physically, and emotionally. I would be targeting the
people that are starving, jailed, the unemployed, the adolescents, and the
elderly. In my opinion, these are the most vulnerable populations. All of these
individuals share the feeling of being oppressed. There is a large percentage
of the population that is starving, jailed, and unemployed due to the
oppressive nature of the North Korean government.
The imagery that would be insulting would be the American flag
placed on the flyer. North Korean government frequently have publicly
broadcasted speeches denouncing America and shows America as a constant their
for invasion. I want the North Korean’s to understand the world “hears their
cry” and not just the Unites States. The North Koreans would welcome bright
colors, smiling faces, and the bright sky. A picture of Kim Jong-un with a big
X over its face would be too aggressive for the fragile North Koreans. They
need images that are nurturing their current troubled state.
Unfortunately, the media that is wide spread in North Korea is
filled with propaganda. They have a team of people that is responsible for
spreading propaganda to the streets and homes of the North Korean people. It is
illegal for North Koreans to have television, radios, and cell phones. Some
laws have become more accepted due to reformed and rebellious people outwardly
having cell phones. They have smugglers who smuggle DVD’s and jump drives
filled with television shows and movies for North Koreans to watch. Much of the
content is South Korean productions.
The North and South both share the cultural value of family and
liberation. I believe that this is the basic root that makes them one in a
same. The United States and North Korea share the value of family and
self-determination. The cultural values that North Koreans share are loyalty
and devotion. They have been devoted to their country. However, it county has
now turned on its people.

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Peer Review
The purpose of the activity is to review and constructively
critique the mock interview while using the RISE model. This interview will
provide me with more potential questions from employers and possible answers to
their questions. This acitivity is very information because I conducted
research on the interview setting, internet connect, and audiovisual
components.
I have reviewed William's mock interview video and you did and adequate job with your mock interview
video. What struck me the most about your interview was your ability to change
your backgrounds. Was this a green screen? I was trying to incorporate
different backgrounds. However, I was unsuccessful. This made me want to
revisit my mock video by re-taping the different sections of my video with a
different background. What are you trying to highlight when you reference Bon
Secours? Did you mean to reference this job as a potential employer or an ideal
employer? I am familiar with the employer. However, I am not familiar with
their Information Technology Department.
Have you considered
memorizing your responses to the interviewers questions? Another suggestion is
to internalize the answers. This means that whether it is a direct or indirect
question, you know how to answer the question. This would also help to increase
the eye contact that is directed to the interviewer. I also suggest that you
make your exit more memorable. Eye contact is important when exchanging
information because it shows that you are actively listening.
When I was composing
my responses to the interviewer’s questions, I pictured myself actually in the
interview. I believe that I interview well. I am a proactive individual and I
often re-write my resume and my cover letter. I have constantly learning new
skills and completed certifications. Did you enjoy this process? Do you think
it was beneficial to your career development?
Your response to
handling disagreements with upper management was very insightful. I can
identify with your experience. The process changes frequently in some areas of
employment. Therefore, I learned how to be adaptable, pay attention, and to
work hard. Often times, it appears that my voice is not being heard from upper
management. However, I have had the opportunity to express my concerns and my
potentials solutions.
You spoke clearly and
enunciated your words. You were dressed professionally as an interviewer and as
an interviewee. It appears that you were not very confident in your responses.
I suggest going your responses to make the interview flow more smoothly. This video is very informational because I it provides
additional options when achieving the ideal interview. I was able to research
the interview setting, the interview process, internet connect, and audiovisual
components.

Week 3 Analysis: Virtual Interview Preparation
This activity is intended to get me prepared for an interview with my ideal potential. This is also intended to help me determine what areas I need to concentrate on when handling virtual interviews and face to face interviews.
Week 3 Practice: Company Questions
This activity is intended to have me formulate a number of questions that I can ask an employer during an interview. This shows that I have vested interest in the position and that I am looking to communicate with the employer.
1. What are the qualities of a
successful University Events Coordinator?
This question is important to my
interview process because I must know what managers consider as successful in
this position. It is vital to the success of my gaining and maintaining my
employment with the Northern Arizona University. I am looking to gain detailed
information from management from this question to give me a full understanding
of their definition of successful as it pertains to this position. The
information that is provided from this question will help me to gather key
attributes and characteristics that I must embody when I fill the vacancy.
2. Does your company offer training
and continuing education opportunities?
This question is important to my
interview process because I need to know if this position has advancement
opportunities. I also need to know if there is training for this position.
Training is vital to the success of an employee in certain positions. I am
looking to gather tangible information in regards to internal or external
training and educational opportunities. The information that I gain from this
question will let me know if this position is suitable for my learning style.
Personally, I prefer an employer that offers training and educational
opportunities to their employees.
3. What are your organizations future
plans for the team?
The question is important to my
interview process because I need to know the future plans that management has
for the team I will be working with. It is imperative to the success of a new
employee to know the future goals of the team and organization. From this
question, I am looking to gain detailed information about the future objectives
and ideas of the management team. I may be able to give good insight into these
new ideas once they are provided to me. This information I will gather from
this question will help my decision about the opportunity because I want to
know that there are future thoughts and forward thinking for the team and the
position. I do not want to join an organization and an opportunity that is
static. I prefer a dynamic employment opportunity.
4. What
types of skills is the team missing that you’re looking to fill with a new
hire?
This question is important to my
interview process because I want to know what characteristics and traits hiring
manager is missing from his current team. This must be known because I must
show the hiring manager that I will feel the needs of the current team and
organization. From this question, I am seeking detailed information about the
current challenges and setbacks of the current team. This can be a wide variety
of information include personnel to performance issues. The information that I
gather from this question will help me make a decision about the opportunity by
determining if my skills and abilities can make a difference in the current
team.
5. What have you enjoyed most about working with the University
of Arizona?
This question is specific to my interview process because I want
to join an organization that I would like to build a career with. To often am I
joining employers based on the compensation. When I join the communications
industry, I want to join an organization that is stimulating and forward
thinking. From this question, I am looking for the interviewer to be honest and
candid in their response. From their answer, I can determine if the goals and
values of the organization align with my own. This information will ultimately
let me know if this will be a very stressful or smooth environment.

Week 2 Practice: Networking
The International Communication Association (ICA) is holding
their 66th annual ICA conference on June 9th-13th
in 2016. The conference is entitled, “Communication with Power.” This
conference would apply to my professional pursuits because I am seeking
international partnerships with communication professionals. This gives me a
competitive edge to be familiar with international associates.
The National Communication Association is holding their 101st
annual convention on November 19th-22 2015 in Las Vegas. This would
apply to my professional pursuits by me discovering potential national employers
small and large. I am seeking employment that will utilize my non-profit skills
to improve the community.
I am interested in joining the Washington, DC chapter of the
Association for Women in Communications. This is a local association that I
would partner with. This association supports the advancement of women across
all communications backgrounds. A national association I am interested in
joining is the Computer and Communications Industry Association. Their mission
is improve innovation and to understand, maintain, and influence innovation
possibilities. They believe that technology and communications both play an
integral role in the advancement of our society.
